This is the text of a press release sent out by the Pleasant Valley Education Foundation.

Camarillo, Calif. October 16, 2017 – The Pleasant Valley Education Foundation (PVEF) has announced that there will be no CineMagic production in 2018. CineMagic has been PVEF’s longest running program and has instructed thousands of local elementary and middle school youth in music, acting and theater production.

CineMagic was first produced in 2001 as a one-off fundraiser for the foundation. It was an instant success and its popularity insured its continued return ever since. Participation was focused primarily on 4th through 8th grades but occasionally other grades were allowed to participate. Many CineMagic alumni continued to return year after year to partake in the CIneMagic Directors-in-Training program.

“The magic of CineMagic was the confidence development we saw in the kids that participated,” said Bob Taylor, PVEF president. “It was truly a pleasure to watch normally shy children blossom into expressive extroverts through their participation in the program. I will miss seeing the joyful faces of hundreds of smiling kids singing and dancing together in each year’s production.”

CineMagic never turned down kids because they lacked innate talent. The only requirement was to regularly attend rehearsals. The foundation even had a scholarship program to cover costume costs for needy families. At one time over 220 kids were participating and it proved nearly impossible to find a stage to handle all of them.

“It is sad that we finally have a large-enough theater within Camarillo and we must skip 2018,” said Sharon Taylor, Executive Director of PVEF, referring to Rancho Campana High School's performing arts center. “We will continue to work with the Pleasant Valley School District to find new ways to fund the program and bring it back.”

The recession that began in late 2008 cut back contributions to all charities, including the PVEF. Although CineMagic had initially been a fundraiser, it was converted into a program supported by the foundation. Fundraising never sprung back to pre-2008 levels. It requires public support of at least $30K a year to continue operations. The last few years of operation have only been possible though creative partnership with the Pleasant Valley School District’s own music programs.

For information about contributing, volunteering or having a child participate in a program, please visit www.pvef.org or contact the PVEF at staylor@pvef.org.

We've got one month before performances and it's getting serious up in here!

Performers need to bring plastic storage bins starting Wednesday the 14th (if not Wednesday then Saturday the 18th).  No bigger than the 40 gallon (and not much smaller).  Kids need to bring the bin with them, so they need to be able to carry it.  Bins go home at the end of every rehearsal.

Once costumes are completed, they will be given to the performer to keep in their bin in the baggie provided.  If you don't have a bin you will not be given your costumes. Please talk to Cathy Bach if you will have financial difficulties in purchasing a bin.

Parents, performance fees must also be paid in full before costumes are distributed.

Girl CineMagicians need to start wearing the little cami top and bike shorts to change. We have rooms but they aren't very private.

Girls also need to purchase black flats - whatever will stay on their feet without slipping.  No heels.

Boys need all-black shoes - tennis shoes will be okay as long as they are nice, no logos. They don't need to be dress shoes.

Parents who have signed up to volunteer, we need you NOW!  Wednesdays for simple sewing (hand sewing - adjusting costumes, hems, etc - NOTHING major yet) and Saturdays for sewing and painting. Please check in with Cathy for assignments!

We have added a second night to our information/registration sessions for CineMagic to accommodate those who can't make our original November 2nd date. So if you can't make it on November 2nd, you have another opportunity to ask questions and register on November 16, 5 - 7pm at Camarillo Heights STEM Academy, 35 Catalina Drive in Camarillo.

We have also made the November 16 timeframe an hour later for those who may need more time to come after work. So November 2nd information/registration is 4pm to 6pm and November 16 information/registration is 5pm to 7pm. You may come ANY TIME during that window! CineMagic staffers and volunteers will be on-hand to answer your questions and take your registration. We plan on doing measurements for costumes that night too so it is essential that your child(ren) comes too!

You can download our preliminary rehearsal schedule here. If you have any more questions you can email our Exec. Dir., Sharon Taylor at staylor@pvef.org or call us at 805-444-1989!

Let's Dance is the theme for the 16th annual production of CineMagic, PVEF's popular after-school performing arts program!

This year we are combining the parent info meeting with registration and costume measurement, all to take place on Wednesday, November 2nd, 4pm - 6pm at Camarillo Heights STEM Academy, 35 Catalina Dr, Camarillo. Online registration will also be available. We plan on doing measurements for costumes that night too so it is essential that your child(ren) comes too!

To clarify, you can come any time during the 4pm to 6pm window. You will receive the CineMagic handbook and be able to ask questions about the program. Then proceed to registration and measurement stations. Bring your CineMagician!

We are also offering a hearty welcome to our new artistic director, Karen Allen, who is a longtime PVSD teacher and drama instructor. Returning this year is assistant director Leigha Gaffuri, as well as managing director, Cathy Bach.

Also new this year will be the participation of students in the Performing Arts Academy at Rancho Campana High School! Under the direction of drama teacher Russell Gibbs, the high school participants, many of whom are CineMagic alumni, will assume various roles in the production.

We are hoping to announce -- upon final confirmation -- that we will be holding CineMagic performances at the performing arts center of Rancho Campana High School! This new venue will be a boon to CineMagic families, who won't have far to drive for dress rehearsals and performance nights, and for CineMagicians who will get to perform on the newest professional-level stage in town! Cross your fingers for us as we make final scheduling arrangements.

In the meantime, here is a preliminary schedule of CineMagic rehearsals and performances (subject to minor change based on final performance dates): download here!

Talent Presentation dates are coming soon! If you haven't registered for CIneMagic yet, don't delay! You can avoid some lines on Talent day by registering in advance here.

Even if you wish to pay by check rather than credit card you can still register in advance online. When you reach the confirmation page of the online registration form, before proceeding to credit card checkout, simply stop there and then bring your check with you to Talent Presentation day. You can also register at Talent Presentation day but that will mean another form to fill out and another line to wait in.

Go to our CineMagic Forms page and download the Talent Presentation form. Remember, October 14 is for grades 3-4 and October 15 is for grades 5-8. If you have children in both grade levels you can choose either one of the days and bring the sibling along. If you absolutely can't make the assigned date for your age group, you can come on the other day. Registration and talent presentations take place from 4 to 6pm at Pleasant Valley School of Engineering and Arts (PVSEA), the former El Descanso School, 1099 Bedford Dr., Camarillo.
